In this session, Clare will outline her thoughts on book dummies, funding ideas, approaching publishers, managing ambitions, and distribution.
Now, this is not a 1-2-3 guide to getting your photo book published! Instead, attendees will have the rare opportunity to hear a first-hand account of publishing a photo book from an artist’s perspective.
Clare has developed five varied projects from concept to publication, and was one of the four judges in the recent MACK First Book award.

Clare Strand (b. 1973) is a British photographer whose work has been praised for investigating the definition of photography itself. By exploring these parameters, her extensive body of work questions the communication, reception, and interpretation of visual information.
Clare has produced five photobooks to date; Gone Astray Newspaper 2002 (self published); Clare Strand Monographpublished by Stedil and Photoworks (2009); Skirts published by GOST (2014), Girl Plays with Snake published by MACK (2017) and Negatives for Fun with Clare Strands Photography published by Multipress (2020).
Her work has been shown in venues such as Tate Britain and The Center Pompidou, and is held in the collections of The Arts Council, The McEvoy Collection and Cornell University. Her exhibit The Discrete Channel with Noise at PHotoESPAÑA, Madrid was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2020.
